Low Down on Buying Perfume & Aftershave Date published: Tue, 28 Aug 2007 02:04:31 +0000

Perfume
A 15-30% concentration of perfume essence and is the strongest fragrance oil available. You will need to apply less, even though the fragrance lasts longer, which can be up to 6 hours depending on skin type.

EDP – Eau De Parfum
EDP is less expensive than perfume with an 10-15% concentration, lasts for up to 3-5 hours

EDT – Eau De Toilette

Suitable for everyday use as it is less expensive and has a concentrate of 5-8% fragrance oil making it a lighter fragrance which last between 2-4 hours.

EDC - Eau De Cologne
Edc has the 3-5% concentrate of perfume oil, usually lasting for up to 2 hours

Aftershave
Aftershave lotion is the most popular choice for men as it is kinder to skin than EDT this is because it is not as strong, and lasts for 2-3 hours. It is advisable to apply to the upper body and arms rather than spray directly onto the face, due to the small alcohol content aftershave lotions do tend to sting. It is recommended that men with very sensitive skin use aftershave balms.

Useful Information
To help a fragrance last longer is advisable to use the body products in the same range. A Bath and Shower Gel, Body Lotion/Body Cream help to maintain the fragrance, avoiding having to re-apply throughout the day. Ideal places to apply a fragrance are behind the ears and on the wrists.

Storing your fragrance
Store an opened bottle out of direct sunlight in its original box to avoid any change in its scent. An un-opened bottle will last at least three years if you keep it in a cool dry place.

Choosing a fragrance
Allow ten minutes after applying a fragrance for it to blend with your skins chemistry and the alcohol content to evaporate before you make your final decision. Never choose a fragrance because it smells nice on someone else. Everybody has different chemistry and it may not smell exactly the same on you.
